Starcraft is a franchise owned by Blizzard Entertainment and, so far, is consisted of two games, Starcraft 1(with I’s expansion pack: The Brood Wars) and Starcraft 2 Wings of Liberty. Starcraft 2 was released 10 years after the first Starcraft game. Although the development took some time, the results really pay off for the long delay. As with most real time strategy game, the principle of game play is fairly simple. Build up your economy, train an army and defeat your opponents. As far as I am concerned, starcraft 2 has few basic options when it comes to game play yet these 3 open up a variety of strategies, which is probably the main reason why this game is my favorite. All in all, Starcraft 2 simply does not compare with all the other RTS(real time strategy game) releases this year so far, although it is released almost one year ago. As far as predictions go, it will probably remain my favorite game for years to come. Matt introduces a new control scheme for Real Time Strategy Games (RTS). The first part of the video quickly goes over how RTS control schemes have developed before going into the details of the proposed new scheme. Matt is working on this as part of a research project at Macquarie University. He is trying to encourage people to use it in their games. Silver Nova Software itself will be using this for Eternal Twilight; a Solar/Lunar themed Arena (DotA-type) game where you play a powerful hero who has control of a number of troops or minions. www.silvernovasoftware.com

www.kickstarter.com Mercenary Games, Battle Systems Prototype. This game engine tool features an interface that allows for player created battle formations. It also features the ability to save and load formations with one click. It is a functional formation editor that saves tactical data and reloads them on the fly. This prototype is being developed for an upcoming RTS game. It targets PC desktops (WindowsXP and above) next gen consoles, smart-phones, tablets and other gaming devices traditionally having restrictive interfaces that do not allow for feasible real time strategy game play. This prototype is a solution being tested against that interface problem.
