The game was released in July 2010 as a platform exclusive title on Xbox Live Arcade, and was later re-released as part of a retail game pack along with Trials HD and &#8216;Splosion Man in April 2011. Ports of the game to the PlayStation Network and Microsoft Windows via Steam and GamersGate were created by Playdead, released after the year-long Xbox 360 exclusivity period was completed. A Mac OS X version was released in December 2011. Limbo is a 2D sidescroller, incorporating the physics system Box2D to govern environmental objects and the player character. The player guides an unnamed boy through dangerous environments and traps as the boy searches for his sister. The developer built the game&#8217;s puzzles expecting the player to fail before finding the correct solution. Playdead called the style of play &#8220;trial and death&#8221;, and used visually gruesome imagery for the boy&#8217;s deaths to steer the player from unworkable solutions.</div>

<div id="lw_context_ads">Ronnis and Jeremy&#8217;s House both had high draw counts, Ronnis especially, and with high draw counts comes lower frame rates. Thus, to improve the frame rate of my game engine, I need to keep the total draws per frame low. To keep the total draws per frame low, I need to optimize the rendering of the scenery. Fusing the buildings into one single image and drawing them all at once solved the frame rate problem for Ronnis. Increasing the repeat width for the ground decals in those 2 worlds also helped, especially in Jeremy&#8217;s House, as a greater repeat width means fewer draws are needed to cover the width of the screen. This video shows the aftermath, after having redone both the ground decals and the buildings/houses in each world. The result? I&#8217;m now under 2000 draws per frame and on my i7-2600K processor (overclocked to 4 GHz), I get well over 150 fps. A 2 GHz Pentium 4 may get close to 60 fps now instead of my processor being unable to keep up at 60 fps. Redoing the reef in world 8, doing all of world 19, or essentially redoing the bulk of world 15 is likely my next task.</div>

<div id="lw_context_ads">Twitter: twitter.com/NalifGames Facebook: www.facebook.com Episode 5 Limbo (stylised as LIMBO) is a puzzle-platform video game and the premiere title of independent Danish game developer Playdead.
