  1. everybody knows that your power companys, ran by many different independent businesses, all have built in remote controls which they have put on the internet to be hacked for a false flag cyber-attack! LMFAO How moronic do these people think we are?

  2. certain video formats only are able to display video, and not capable of creating exploits unless it is something stupid such as built in macros or sub-code used by the format to perform a malicious task. As a network engineer I can tell you that it’s safe to watch video (but swf or fla is not safe, and some video formats which feature embedded codes that could be exploited, such as microsoft formats). Mpeg will not do this.

  3. I am a network engineer. There is so much BS in this scenario I can’t help but to laugh through half of it. This doesn’t have to have an origin, it could be cells of people spread out to continue the attack when one of them is taken out. They would have to write a virus to block the botnet; only this solution would take a long time to implement (apparently microsoft did this with one of the top 10 botnets, recently).

These people are talking out of their ass.

  4. Live Free Die Hard anyone?

  5. I think they probably already have some level of cyber threat laws in place but they surely wouldn’t be airing those plans out in plain view before it happens such as this show is displaying. This whole show just gives attackers an inside look as what to work from, how we work, and where the weak points are. If they truly did things this way, its like saying heres where we fail on a national level, now go find a way to exploit it. Might as well bend over and say f!ck me, its ok, I’m expecting it

  6. If this malware then sent out links to everyone in the address book, and hit other than just phones, and people were dumb enough to click the links, they again could be targeted and spread the attack further. Think SET – the Social-Engineering Toolkit and how it integrates with Metasploit.

  7. Exactly. And I think the message being delivered by this panel is not what serious cyber threats the United States may face. It’s about what powers the government wants now, accompanied by a scare tactic designed to blindside people that are dependent upon technology they don’t understand. The fantasy scenario is poorly constructed for the reasons we’ve both brought to light, but what’s truly frightening is how quickly they reach to martial law and nationalization. That’s the real threat.

  8. I agree with you, im not disputing this whole scenario is horsesh!t. What I was sayint though, is that if its going to spread through their address book to different types of phones, they would need something tailored to each phone, hence a webpage reidrect based on the phone itself. Thing is, it would never make it into an app store in the first place, thats #1. #2, if they were able to hit on a global level, they would need something for each type of phone, which is also higly unlikley.

  9. No, that doesn’t make any sense. You’re assuming that all these phones’ browsers have vulnerabilities that would cause them execute files they’re sent, which simply isn’t true. I don’t know of any smart phones that will even let you download files that aren’t pictures or videos. Secondly, even if the vulnerabilities did exist, you’ve just centralized the attack by bringing a specific server into it. The carriers just cut off access to the site from those phones, likedy split – no shit. Try again
