Pitman (Cat Trap) for the Classic Game Boy

This is Pitman for the Game Boy by Ask Kodansha, also known as Cat Trap in the United States that was localised by Asmik Corporation (their work is easy as the Japanese game is entirely in English, but coming up with a decent manual and box art is sadly beyond them). This final round all-bases-covered exploration is specially for those who 1) dislike puzzle games 2) are too lazy to work through the 100 stages 3) are too lazy to even cheat through them 4) are into retro gaming stuff or 5) are simply curious about anything PS. I am very proud to have beaten this brain-twisting game from about 13 years ago with nothing but hard work and a little code-breaking ingenuity (ONLY for rounds 86 and 88 as they were the only ones I couldn’t work out).

  1. Exactly my thoughts.

And wow, when I was 6 years old I loved this game… and I always thought those were HORNS. Now I’m 19 and I found out they’re actually cat ears… D:

I hadn’t even THOUGHT about these games for about 10 years, and yet I still remember these songs… Talk about a memorable game…

  2. They were trapped in the labyrinth of eternal darkness (or whatever crazy thing they called it) too. But yeah. they should have kept the cat ears.

  3. i have this game in my gameboy, i pass all the levels by bug, i start to pressing ‘B’ and down and that level skipped to another one (sry bad english)

  4. Yeah I thought they looked more unique with the ears ‘curse’.

  5. Wait, Wait, WAIT!!! They go through all of that so they can LOSE those cool ass cat ears?! WTF?!?

  6. Gotta love puzzle games :D

  7. lol i never even knew they had a curse

  8. This was one of my favorite GB games

  9. I’m surprised to hear that. But you got get a used Japanese copy on eBay if you really want it.

Oh yes, that game! The manufacturer’s Vic Tokai, and I’ve managed to beat that too (I even drew the puzzle piece combinations for the last stage on a piece of paper long ago but lost it).

Perhaps when I could afford some time I’ll do a video on that too.

  10. I remember seeing strategies for Cat Trap in Nintendo Power, or it might have been the Game Boy strategy guide. Certainly don’t remember ever seeing it in stores :( What a shame because this looks like a great puzzler. Were you a fan of Daedalian Opus, also for the Game Boy?

  11. Yeah it can be frustrating at times when a stage out of the hundred gets too tricky, that’s the nature of puzzle games I guess, haha.

Mr. Do on the other hand is similar to Dig Dug, but I like the former as the character moves faster, and the game has temporary invincibility powerups as well as funky music.

  12. that game looks fun. almost like mr. driller but upside down.
