Need For Speed Shift Game Review – Lazy Game Reviews

After 12 titles and several of them disappointing, is the newest NFS worth buying? Perhaps a shift in the right direction? Lawls in this review of Slightly Mad Studio’s: Need For Speed Shift ( PC version reviewed ) Also, for some reason I have found out upgrading makes a HUGE and negative difference toward handling! For instance, in my Lamborghini LP640, if I upgrade everything involving handling, and then only the engine, it will handle beautifully. But if I start upgrading the turbo, gearing, and most of the “Extra” upgrades (including large brakes) it will slide all over the place, negating any performance boosts. I assume this could be fixed by then tweaking the car to handle the performance, but what I’ve done doesn’t seem to help and the game gives no guidance on tweaking anything so I have no idea.

  1. Is GTR 2 better than Need For Speed Shift or both? For PC.

  2. I like more about arcade racing than simulations. I have never been good at driving games, so easier game the better.

I have played games like Gran Turismo & Forza. It was fun for a while, but I got frusterated. I like games like Ridge Racer that aren’t all about realism, but about fast, cool & fun driving.

This is of course only mine opinion.

  3. what about nfsmw?

  4. Hot Pursuit 2 was the last good NFS game.

  5. would this game work on a ps3 ferari gt experience wheel plz reply????

  6. I actually kinda like Shift, mix between Burnout and Forza almost. People that say that this game “sucks” and such though obviously hasn’t played it through a lot imo.

  7. i fucking hate every new NFS series including this piece of shit fake “simulatior” Shift. Bring back the Porsche 2000 or stop making anymore NFS series.

  8. LMAO @ 3:42!! Anyways, I completely agree with your review. We had this on display at work and things just seemed….wonky. O_o; It doesn’t feel like a N4S game.

    Thanks for the review.

  9. i think that the game was rushed so its crap but if they had more time it could of been better or at least have drifting freedom like in juiced 2

  10. HOLY CRAP, I never thought to press Enter! 18 years of gaming on PC and never once did Enter cross my mind.

Sorry, but no. Enter does not skip anything. Not until you patch the game, which lets you skip some things at the start of races, and even then you can’t skip the long intro movie to the start of the career.

  11. You can skip those. Press Enter, it’s below backspace.

Someone said same about the demo, “STUPID VIDEO CAN’T SKIP”, and I just paid Enter and it skipped…

  12. Yeah, I can see how the corner cutting rule would be ideal for online.
And they always try for a Septemberish release of NFS, so this is just another game for another year, about 2 years in the making. They’re fixing a lot of the small issues with the PC version through patches, and I’m loving the 360 version. Superior in every way, other than graphics.

  13. Sorry, what console was this game released for?

  14. i think the no cutting corner rule is the key component that makes the online gameplay ennjoyable.
there is a chance that the reason that this game is so unpolished is that they rushed the product, perhaps they were trying to publish it before gt5 and gt psp?

  15. I certainly agree – it’s far better than the Undergrounds and such. And really, the more I’ve been playing it, the more I’m getting used to the handling. It has just taken much longer than most to get used to for me

  16. Shift is much better than those previous stupid kiddy arcade gangster and ricer wannabe racing game. that is only my opinion, don’t take it personally

  17. sorry, im too poor to afford another one. :( lol but i understand what you mean, but if the car is tuned properly (spring settings, ride height etc), i find that the handling is realistic and pretty easy when proper racing techniques were used (engine braking, pm abs etc). besides, this game uses physics similar to GTR, so the handling of a car cant be that off, in my opinion. ill give it a 8.5/10 since there are bugs within the game and poor interface. by the way, i dislike forza. GT5 <3

  18. Great review. Really thorough and entertaining.

  19. If you want to send me one of your racing wheels, I’ll be glad to learn on that!
The point is, in comparison to previous NFS games and other sims such as Forza, it was really difficult on many cars to get a grip on the handling, even at low speeds. This has never been a problem on other games with the cars I was using (BMW 3-series, Mazda RX-series, Skyline R39) – it just slides with some cars more than any other game I’ve played (other than maybe Sega GT, now there’s an oldie)

  20. g25 + pro physics is the way the go. No grip to be found? perhaps you should learn throttle control

  21. Thanks! That’s pretty much the idea, and really how these types of reviews got started. Glad you enjoy, spread the word!

  22. ROFL! I loved this review! The comment about the physics on “Planet Shift” followed the “supernatural” events on track actually made me laugh out loud.

And I enjoy your laid-back style; it sounds as if you’re sitting back and enjoying a good beer while you play the game, casually commenting to your beer-buddies about all that is right and wrong in the world of NFS:S.

There are plenty of “serious” reviews out there; we could definitely use more material like this. Keep this up!

  23. The physics are definitely somewhat whacked. I mean, if it was an arcade game, that’d be great. But for simulation… uh, not really, lol.

  24. Thank you! Quite differing styles we have, and it’s always refreshing to see another’s view. Hope you enjoy!

  25. hey, i saw your comment on my review, and i wanted to find out if you uploaded any videos, since you seem pretty knowledgeable about driving games, and i was pleasantly surprised to find that you review games. i’m looking forward to seeing your older reviews and any you may do in the future. great review!
