Classic Game Room HD reviews LAST BATTLE for Sega Genesis (aka Sega Mega Drive). This is an earlier Genesis action game from 1989 and has many similarities to Altered Beast (and shares some music with Golden Axe). You play as Aarzak (pronounced Are-zak) and fight your way through 2-D side scrolling levels full of mindless enemies who attack you with knives and axes. Last Battle may not be the most exciting game on the Genesis but the packaging is cool and the writing is hilarious. Level …
I hated this game when it came out. It was of course one of the first games, if not one of the launch titles so it’s hard to complain.. but I remember only being able to get maybe three or four stages into it before dying.. argh.. I’d usually just give up and blow up waves of enemies in thunderforce II. Even Alex Kidd was better… sorta.
thanks for confirming that. I can sleep now knowing I informed someone of the truth lol
It does need more blood though or something exploding.
In the japanese version hokuto no ken heads explode when you hit the bad guys its pretty sweet
this is indeed a hokuto no ken game
Great Zero Wing reference!
ive played a bloody version of this game. i know its fist of the north star.
As joystickjedi said, this game is based on Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) comic book from Japan, by Tetsuo Hara. It’s a legendary title in Japan. This game take place in the story after the big climax showdown between the main character Kenshiro and his brother arch nemesis Raoh. So the story is kinda letdown and this game reflects that too. Plus it’s just not a well made game, but it’s hard to translate a movie/comic book to a game when you’re pretending like it’s a whole diff story.
nice!!!
well, theres tons of generic and mediocre fps games today, like side scrollers were back in late 80s-90s
Huh?!?!
This is one of the first games I got for the genesis all those years ago. I think it cost me something like $89.99. That’s how much these games cost back then.
I played it and played it, hoping it would get better, hoping something good would happen. It was repetitive as hell and mind numbingly maddening and boring.
Not a good sega genesis memory for me. Maybe I should have skipped this one and gone outside and thought of something else to do.
still i think final fight is way better than this game
lol
It looks sort of fun. Unlike many other games of this kind, you don’t have to punch and punch away at enemies. You can basically just walk through the stage and smack enemies to the side.
I originally thought that the name “Last Battle” was a way to cash in on the name “Final Fight”, but it seems that “Last Battle” was released a few months earlier than the well-known Capcom game. Hence, this is the original! Capcom rode on the coattails of this game!
japanese version has blood and gore
heads explode when you punch them
In the import version the enemies heads exploded in red splatters. Not surprised they edited it for the US though. Fun game for the time, but freaking impossible!
This is a game based on Fist of The North Star edited for the U.S. , the names are different of course. But how did they change Kenshiro’s to Aarzak, I dont even think thats a name.
thanks fr uploading these vids theyre really entartaining and fun to watch
)
This game is very similar to Black Belt on the SMS, and that’s probably because they were both based on Fist of the North Star games from Japan.
this was one first genesis games i ever owned
ahh, sidescrollers; the fps of the late 80s- 90s.
Although most reviewers knock this game, I found it relatively fun especially when you get deep into the game and face the last few bosses.
It should be mentioned that alot of people enjoy the gameplay of a rare SEGA games like The Ninja Warriors but very few will comment that the gameplay is similar to this game, The Last Battle.
yeah i was thinking the same thing. this has to be “FIST OF THE NORTHSTAR”. lol without the blood.
bad dudes is a much better game thanthis crap
hes not even touching the baddies and hes hitting
