  1. in qix you were the little object that drew lines. the energy creature (I think it was the QIX, I don’t remember exactly) tried to stop you, and you had to avoid it. The goal was to claim sections of the playfield, and surround the creature, and you scored based on the percentage of the playfield you claimed. I hope that helps explain it. Oh, “qix” is pronounced “kicks”.

  2. Is there a version of this game that doesn’t include the sparks for enemies? lol

(I know that must sound “wussy”!)

  3. I broke the record (accidentally) at my local Chuck E. Cheese before they got rid of the game. 8D

  4. The buzzing sound in this game sounds like from the lightsabre from Star Wars.

  5. I broke QIX record in Rio, São Paulo and New York in the 80s.

Ok, ok, now. A standing ovation, please.

All right, all right, thank you people.

  6. I liked that that no kids played it. I think it was too boring and abstract for them. I knew that there wasn’t some 9 yr old somewhere acing this game. I used to dream strategies and configs to score high, and go to times square at 4am to play out my strategy. they never turned off the machines, so my scores remained.

the one major problem with qix(and why i don’t buy the srcade) is that i felt to play the game well, the controls had to be precise and SMOOTH. too many machines played “sticky”.

  7. Hey, dude, use mame32 emulator and I can tell you where to find the rom if still interested, this game rulez !

  8. Your goal is to fill in as much of the screen as you can (the percentage gets higher for each level) and therefore trap the Qix. If it touches your cursor, or any area you’re working on before you finish, you die.
There was also a knockoff called Gals Panic, which exposed pictures of girls instead of just making coloured blocks.

  9. WOW I HAVE THIS GAMES ON TAITO LEGENDS 1 AND TWO for ps2

  10. I remember this in the arcade and played it a few times, but I could never figure out what to do. I still don’t. Can someone please tell me how this works.

  11. Please anyone tell me where I can find this game either to play for money on line or if there’s a CD of this game I can buy. Thanks.

  12. Yeah, I just picked it up too. That suite has a lot of great 80’s games on it. Bad thing is, though, as with all these 80’s re-release games, they have them set to the most difficult playability. After the 1st stage they are nearly unplayable.

  13. This was by far the most creative video game form the golden age. I developed the strategy to make a separate play room where I could make all the art I wanted without the line monster killing me.

  14. This game is so awesome, I have it on the Taito legends collection for PSP. I actually prefer these older classic games over most games they have out now.

  15. I had the Game Boy version of Qix, so I’m somewhat familiar with it.

You probably would have done better if you had trapped the qix in between those two sections on the right. Ah, great try.

  16. i play this game alot,and i got a 99% today
    IT WAS INSANE

  17. My college had this game in the arcade room. PLayed many a game back in the early 80s.

  18. I once and only once box two qixs. This game was great at the arcades back then.Has anybody seen Gorf or Sinistar around ???

  19. I find the sounds a bit obnoxious, but this is definitely a game many imitate due to its greatness. My mom remembers this just as well as she does Donkey Kong. And she doesn’t even like video games anymore.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget Jezzball. That stemmed from this, and it also has spawned many a spinoff.

  20. I loved this game! Just for the cool sounds it made! thanks for posting!

  21. after being restored the 3rd time there was a moment where you could have sealed off the Qix in that little box giving you about 97% .. :D .. ah well, next time!
